Torso after Michelangelo

February 15, 2009

torsoThe inspiration for this drawing was a photograph of a torso sculptured by Michelangelo.  It’s rendered with coloured pencil on grey paper. In Michelangelo’s time, copying the works of the masters was a big part of an artist’s training. Today, we’re so concerned about being ‘original’ that we seldom want to copy anyone else’s art work. This is an opportunity lost, as there is so much to be learned from the old masters.
