Zentangles
February 14, 2012
Zentangling is a meditative type of doodling that’s easily accomplished by anyone regardless of skill level. The most basic of materials, paper and a dark felt marker, provide an excellent starting point for this relaxing and creative activity.
Here are two examples, one done with a fine tip black marker and the other done with a brown calligraphy marker.
Thanks to Gerry at Torch Lake Views for introducing me to this art form.
Moon Shell
March 28, 2009
There’s something about moon shells that sparks my imagination. In the drawing above, I used the design of a Northern Moon Snail as a starting point for some rainbow-like colour combinations and patterns.
Colored pencils were employed on heavy textured paper.
Dragons
March 27, 2009
Not sure why, but dragons have always fascinated me. Somewhere along the way (perhaps in Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit’) I read that they are a personification of greed. Consequently, to conquer a dragon is to conquer one’s desires for the material world.
The drawings above were done with a combination of felt markers, coloured pencils and ink.
