Celtic Trinity Knot

May 22, 2009

Celtic KnotI love you not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you.

~  Roy Croft

This image is very similar to one created earlier and posted as a Triquetra.  The design has been altered and colored to be used for a wedding invitation.  The quotation and colors were chosen by the couple who are looking forward to a Celtic celebration of their marriage later this summer.  Their wedding rings show a similar design.

The drawing was done in fine point black marker and enhanced with gold and silver colored pencils.

Elvish

March 20, 2009

elvishTolkien who wrote ‘Lord of the Rings’ was fascinated with language in both its spoken and written forms.  Elvish is one of many languages that he invented.  The written form is full of curves and wisps which adds to its credibility as a faerie script.

The calligraphy at left translates as A star shines on the hour of our meeting.

Below is a promotional piece created for a calligraphy class.

I Corinthians

The above rendering of scripture taken from I Corinthians was made with a green calligraphy marker and fine tip black marker.  The Uncial alphabet that I’ve employed consists of a blend of what we’ve come to know as upper and lower case characters.

Paul’s advice on how we should practice loving one another isn’t easy to follow, but certainly an ideal worth aspiring to on a daily basis.  I think it’s helpful to have words of scripture framed and displayed in high traffic areas of the home to act as visual reminders to family members.
